About The Event
Joyful Company of Singers
Performers from The English Folk Dance and Song Society:
Maz O'Connor (singer)
Nicola Lyons (classical violin and folk fiddle)
Peter Broadbent (conductor)
Gavin Roberts (piano and organ)
From the time of their marriage in 1953, until his death, aged 85, just five years later in 1958, Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) and his wife Ursula lived at 10 Hanover Terrace nearby in Regent’s Park. Vaughan Williams’ deep love of the English folk tradition, the revival of which the composer was heavily involved in his work with Cecil Sharp, is reflected in the choice of music in this programme. We welcome back the Joyful Company of Singers to the festival to stage a unique collaboration with local partners The English Folk Dance and Song Society, who are based at the Cecil Sharp House, and Vaughan Williams Memorial Library the other side of Regent’s Park.
